College Fair Saturday, September 25, 2010 from 10:00 am until 3:00 pm at the Georgia World Congress Center, building C. Registration is required for this FREE event. All registration forms must be submitted by Friday, September 17. You may scan and email the form(s) to Karen Roberts at kroberts@100blackmen-atlanta.org, fax it to her at 404-525-6124, or mail it to her attention in care of 100 Black Men of Atlanta, Inc., 241 Peachtree Street, N.E., Suite 300, Atlanta, Georgia 30303-1423. UGA Vet School for a Day
Are you interested in learning about career opportunities within the field of veterinary medicine? If so, visit Mrs. Strickland in the Depot (300 building) to get registered to visit the vet school at UGA on Wednesday, September 29, 2010. This is a free event.

Hey DHS Senior Ladies! If you are interested in a liberal arts college check out the "Women of Distinction" program through Smith College in Massachusetts.
The Women of Distinction program for high school seniors highlights the opportunities at Smith College for African American, Asian American, Latina and Native American students. Participants in this three-day program will explore Smith College and determine whether it might be an appropriate college choice for them. Students will live in campus houses, experience the academic and social life at Smith and attend panels and workshops on student life and the college admission process. Admission to Women of Distinction is a competitive process based on academic and personal qualities. Smith will provide round-trip transportation, meals and accommodations for all selected participants.

Please note that your high school transcript and guidance counselor’s signature are required, so plan accordingly. All applicants will be notified in writing by October 8, and selected participants will be given instructions about arranging travel and other program details.

colleges. The only women’s college with a major in engineering, we also offer majors and
minors in 50 other departments and programs, as well as a thousand classes per year.

2010 Senior Profile: Your first step to getting a counselor recommendation
Hey Seniors! CLICK HERE if you need to download a copy of the Senior Profile that is used by your counselor to write your letters of recommendation. Please note that you only need to complete this if you are applying to a college that requires a counselor recommendation letter. Once you have this completed please turn it in to Mrs. Strickland in the Depot. Please allow 2 weeks for the counselor to write your letter. That means DO NOT ask them to do it the day before it is due to the college! Not that any of you would do that , of course ; - )

Hey Wildcats! Mrs. Strickland is setting up times for college representatives to come visit DHS and meet with students who are interested in applying to their school. If you are interested in attending one of the sessions in the Depot (located in the Counseling Office, 300 building) please see Mrs. Strickland to get a pass. 2010 Graduates
Congratulations! The counseling office will distribute diploma seals on June 8, 9, & 10 between the hours of 8:00 am and 1:00 pm.
Rising Seniors: 2011 Graduates
Are you ready for your senior year? Do you know what you want to do when you graduate next year? This summer is the time to research your options and create a plan to achieve your dreams. Listed below are some things for you to start thinking about/doing in preparation for your senior year.
Promotion Requirements: Do you have enough credits to graduate? If you started 9th grade in 2007 or earlier, in order to be considered a senior for the 2010-11 school year, you must have 16 or more credits including no less than 2.5 LA, 2.5 Math, 2.5 Science, and 1.5 SS.

Georgia Tech: Early Action date- October 1, Presidential Scholar application deadline -Oct 31 (Everyone who has applied by Oct. 31 is considered for Presidential Scholar-no separate application)
Georgia State University: Early Action- November 1, Regular decision and scholarship deadlines January 15, Final deadline March 1
Also, Duluth HS can nominate 4 Emory Scholar candidates and 1 Goizueta Scholar candidate to Emory University. If you would like to be considered see Mrs. Strickland in the Depot before Oct. 1. (very high SAT or ACT score, high GPA in advanced classes and school involvement are important considerations)

Follow up with teachers about input forms to be emailed to Kathy Strickland
4) 3 Weeks prior to application deadline: Counselor will complete recommendation letter WHEN all of the materials listed above have been received
