2010 Graduates

Congratulations! The counseling office will distribute diploma seals on June 8, 9, & 10 between the hours of 8:00 am and 1:00 pm.

Rising Seniors: 2011 Graduates

Are you ready for your senior year? Do you know what you want to do when you graduate next year? This summer is the time to research your options and create a plan to achieve your dreams. Listed below are some things for you to start thinking about/doing in preparation for your senior year.

Promotion Requirements: Do you have enough credits to graduate? If you started 9th grade in 2007 or earlier, in order to be considered a senior for the 2010-11 school year, you must have 16 or more credits including no less than 2.5 LA, 2.5 Math, 2.5 Science, and 1.5 SS.

Do you plan on applying to college? Have you taken the SAT or ACT? Please visit their web page (links are to the right side of this page) for registration and test prep info. Upcoming Fall test dates are: ACT- Sept. 11, Oct. 23, and Dec. 11, 2010 SAT- Oct. 9, Nov. 6, and Dec. 4, 2010.

GA College 411 Have you registered for your FREE account? If not, do it! Through this site you can take various tests that will help guide you in your college and career planning for free. You can also research colleges from all across the country, see your HOPE GPA, research financial aid info, send high school transcripts to in-state colleges/universities, and more!

Important Application Dates for the BIG 3
University of Georgia: Early Action date- Oct. 15 Regular Decision- Jan 15
Georgia Tech: Early Action date- October 1, Presidential Scholar application deadline -Oct 31 (Everyone who has applied by Oct. 31 is considered for Presidential Scholar-no separate application)
Georgia State University: Early Action- November 1, Regular decision and scholarship deadlines January 15, Final deadline March 1

Also, Duluth HS can nominate 4 Emory Scholar candidates and 1 Goizueta Scholar candidate to Emory University. If you would like to be considered see Mrs. Strickland in the Depot before Oct. 1. (very high SAT or ACT score, high GPA in advanced classes and school involvement are important considerations)

Need A Counselor Recommendation? A request for recommendations is appropriate only when required for scholarships and competitive college applications. If your application requires a recommendation letter and/or a recommendation form filled out by a counselor, please follow these steps:
1) Complete college application.
2) 5 Weeks prior to application deadline see Ms. Strickland for the following: Senior Profile packet – includes a form for parents to complete, Teacher Input Forms, & Order transcripts—$2 fee & 48 hour processing period – Must order one transcript for EACH college application
3) 4 Weeks prior to application deadline: Complete Senior Profile and give copy to Ms. Strickland
Follow up with teachers about input forms to be emailed to Kathy Strickland
4) 3 Weeks prior to application deadline: Counselor will complete recommendation letter WHEN all of the materials listed above have been received
