2011 Duluth Fine Arts League Scholarship

Scholarship Information: Application deadline is March 31, 2011

Send application and essay questions to: Ms. Mary Buck, Duluth Fine Arts League, 3899 Hansom Cab Way, Duluth, GA 30096. Your application must be received by this date. You can hand deliver it by 6:00 PM. Email applications will not be accepted.

Interviews will take place at the end of April 2011. If you are chosen for an interview, you will be asked to perform or submit samples of your work.

A total of two $1000 scholarships will be awarded.

Scholarship Guidelines:
Only seniors at Duluth High School or home-schooled seniors residing in Duluth are eligible for this scholarship. Applicant must be a U.S. Citizen and must be a Duluth resident (zip code of 30096 or 30097).

Applicants must be entering a 2 or 4 year college or university and pursuing a degree in: Visual Art (includes photography and graphic art), Dance, Theater, Creative Writing, Instrumental Music, or Vocal Chorus

Young Scholars Program

The Young Scholars Program is a six week summer internship for high school students interested in science, agriculture, or engineering. Students work side by side with a mentor, with whom they will interact on a daily basis to develop a research project and create a presentation. At the end of the program, each participant presents their research and findings.

The goal of the Young Scholars Program is to encourage outstanding high school students to explore new areas and pursue a future career in science. As a high school student, you will have the opportunity to earn money for six weeks during the summer working with animals, plants, insects, machinery, scientific lab equipment, etc. The program is opened to students that have finished their sophomore year, juniors and seniors and are 16 years by May 31. Application deadline is January 31, 2011 - transcript and two letters of recommendation from science, math or agriculture teachers are required.

For 2011 and 2012, USDA-NIFA funding has allowed for the program to be expanded to Fort Valley State University. Students interested in working at FVSU will be provided with lodging and meals if selected. Click here for more info.

January College Visits

Hey Wildcats! Mrs. Strickland is setting up times for college representatives to come visit DHS and meet with students who are interested in applying to their school. If you are interested in attending one of the sessions in the Depot (located in the Counseling Office, 300 building) please see Mrs. Strickland to get a pass. If the college rep is going to be in the lunchroom there is no pass required.
