Are you interested in working with other teenagers at Gwinnett Children's Shelter?

What is the Teen Board?
A group of youth, who do service projects, activities with TEENAGE Shelter residents, and provide the Shelter with input and guidance. They are dedicated to promoting a positive and healthy lifestyle. They meet once a month for meetings has additional service projects and activities, requiring 8 additional hours each month. This is a youth-led group that makes its own decisions about projects and activities to pursue.

How Do I become a member?
Fill out the application completely. Make sure you follow directions! Applicants who Fail to follow directions on reference forms, or submit an incomplete application will not be considered for an interview or the TEEN BOARD. REFERENCES MUST BE FROM 3 NON-RELATED ADULTS, ONE OF WHICH MUST BE A TEACHER OR A COUNSELOR

My College Dollars app connects students to financial aid through Facebook.

Free Practice SAT Saturday, March 24

Dear Duluth High School Parents and Students:

Duluth High School will be offering a free Practice SAT on Saturday, March 24, 2012 at 9:00 am for all students interested in finding out how their score currently stands on the SAT. The test is being offered by Cornerstone Academic Services, a test preparation company that has helped over 2,000 metro-Atlanta students increase their scores using official SATs. For those interested in taking the free Practice SAT, please register here.

Cornerstone Academic will also be holding a free Score Interpretation Night on Tuesday, March 27, at 7:00 pm in the theatre. Parents are requested to attend to learn how their students performed on the Practice SAT, learn about test-taking strategies, and see available options for score improvement.

For those parents who have expressed interest in SAT test preparation classes, Cornerstone Academic will be holding a 34-hour SAT Preparation Course at Duluth High School from April 9 through April 30. Since space is limited for the course, interested parents and students can register for the course here. There are flexible four-week and ten-week payment options available to help parents pay for the course.

We hope that students and parents will take advantage of this free assessment and score report.

SAME Engineering and Construction Camps

The Society of American Military Engineers offers a very unique series of engineering camps designed for High School students of all grade levels who excel in math, science and technical courses and are interested in pursuing engineering in college. These one–week camps are high energy, hands–on events for students from across the country and around the world. The camps are led by a professional staff of engineers from both private industry and the military services.

The Atlanta SAME post will sponsor high school students in the Atlanta area to attend the SAME Engineering by paying for ½ of the application fee and all transportation costs, leaving only $275 for students to pay.

Interested students should:
1. Check the eligibility requirements at http://SAMEcamps.org
2. Complete the application for the camp(s) you wish to attend.
3. Write an essay of 300 words or less describing why you want to attend the camp and what you expect to get out of it.

If they are listed as "lunch", you can visit with them in the cafeteria during your lunch period. If they are listed as"depot", you must get a pass from Mrs. Strickland in the counseling office (300 building) prior to the school visit.
