Duluth Community Scholarship 2010

The Duluth Community Scholarships are available to all seniors that attend DHS. The scholarship committee awards scholarships based foremost on financial need. Academic achievement, athletic participation, and involvement with school and community activities are also taken into consideration. Applicants must be eligible for admission to a technical college, two-year or four-year college, preferably in Georgia. CLICK HERE to download a copy of the application.

Scholarship Opportunity for current JUNIORS

QuestBridge Launches 2010 College Prep Scholarship

QuestBridge College Prep Scholarship levels the playing field of college admissions. It equips high-achieving low-income students with the knowledge necessary to compete for admission to the nation's most selective colleges. If you are a high school junior who has achieved academic excellence in the face of economic challenges, we encourage you to complete the College Prep Scholarship application at www.questbridge.org.

Selected students will receive one or more of the following awards:
- Full scholarships to college summer programs: 10 students will receive scholarships to summer school programs at Emory, Harvard, Notre Dame, Penn, Stanford, or Yale. The scholarships will cover the full cost of travel, tuition, and room & board.
- Individualized college admissions counseling: 40 students will each be paired with an experienced counselor from QuestBridge's staff and will receive personalized admissions advice via phone and e-mail throughout the college application process.
- College Admissions Conference invitations: 1,000 students will be invited to QuestBridge conferences at Stanford or Yale. Participants will attend workshops on how low-income students can successfully apply to leading colleges. They also will meet college admissions officers and learn more about the opportunities that QuestBridge offers.
- All-expense-paid campus visits: 100 students will have their travel expenses and room & board covered by a QuestBridge partner college to visit their campus.
- Tele-mentoring with college students: 100 students will each be paired with an Amherst College student who will provide advice about the college admissions process.

The College Prep Scholarship application is available at www.questbridge.org. The application is free of charge and is due March 29, 2010

Hey Juniors!!! Do you know what Joint Enrollment is? What about the ACCEL porgram? Well, they are the same thing and allow you to begin earning college credit during your senior year in high school using HOPE scholarship money to pay for it. FAFSA Help

SENIORS AND Parents,

The Georgia Perimeter College is hosting two parent and student sessions on how to fill out and submit the FAFSA (Free Aplication for Student Aid) form. For each session you will need to bring with you your Social Seurity card, Driver's License, and 2009 tax return. If you would like more information, please call the GCPS financial aid offices at the numbers listed below.

Summer Opportunities

HEY WILDCATS!!! Are you interested in participating in summer programs through local colleges or volunteer organizations? If so, please check back regularly for updated info on opportunities or come by and visit Mrs. Strickland in the Depot (located in the Counseling office/300 building). These opportunities are open for rising 10th, 11th, and 12th graders.

Emory Summer Science Academy
· A science enrichment program for high school students interested in science and/or a career in science, medicine or health professions
· May 31st –June 11th & June 28th –July 9th Day Program sessions deadline–April 16, 2010
· June 13th – June 25th Residential Program Only deadline is March 5, 2010

Medical College of Georgia Summer SEEP Program
The four main objectives of MCG’s summer program for pre-college students are: to enrich students’ knowledge of biomedical sciences; to familiarize students with educational opportunities at MCG; to help students identify their specific career goals; and, to enhance prospects for admission to health professional schools by strengthening academic performance and improving standardized test-taking capacity.

Volunteer Programs
Northside Volunteen Program
The application is available from Mrs. Strickland in the counseling office (300 building). The deadline for Northside to have the completed application is Feb 26th. It is a" first come first served" basis-often the program fills up before the deadline, so you need to act fast-you will need a teacher recommendation.

DHS February College Visits

Hey Wildcats! Mrs. Strickland is setting up times for college representatives to come visit DHS and meet with students who are interested in applying to their school. If you are interested in attending one of the sessions in the Depot (located in the Counseling Office, 300 building) please see Mrs. Strickland to get a pass. If the college rep is going to be in the lunchroom there is no pass required.
