Junior Classroom Guidance

Hey Juniors! It is time to start thinking about your Senior year and your future beyond DHS. During the week of February 1, 2010 your counselor will be meeting with you through your Language Arts class to discuss the following: are you on track for graduation, options for making up any failed classes, class options for next year, and more. We look forward to meeting with you!

Free Online GHSGT Prep for Science and Social Studies

Beginning February 1, 2010, a free Online ExPreSS Tutorial Program will be offered by the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) for high school students and certificate of attendance recipients who were unsuccessful on or who have not yet taken the Science and/or Social Studies Georgia High School Graduation Tests (GHSGT). The Online ExPreSS modules are self-paced and are based on the instructional plans created for the summer ExPreSS Program.

Students will create their own registration account using their GTID (Georgia Testing Identifier) number. Detailed instructions for creating this account and locating their GTID number will be provided by February 1, 2010, on the ExPreSS Website as listed above.

HOPE GPA

Hey students! Your current high school transcript has been uploaded to GA College 411. CLICK HERE to visit the site.

SENIORS:
You are now able to send your transcript which will include 1st semester grades electronically via this site to colleges in Georgia. For any senior who has had a grade change on their transcript, the correct grade will NOT be reflected on the GaCollege411 transcript. If this situation applies to you, you're advised to send your paper transcript which will be updated with the current and correct grade. Paper transcripts are available from the counseling office for a change of $2 per copy.

Financial Aid Application Info

Money…money…money…the application process:

A. If your family wants to be considered for HOPE as well as other state and federal financial aid programs, you and your parent are required to complete the FAFSA Form (Free Application for Student Aid). Be sure to put the schools to which you are applying on this form. The FAFSA form is available on the Internet at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Once this is complete, you will receive your Student Aid Report (SAR). This report will contain your Expected Family Contribution (EFC). Your EFC will be used to determine you federal student aid eligibility and will be sent to all schools you listed on your FAFSA. Each school will send you an award letter; detailing the forms of financial aid you have been awarded.

B. If your family does not feel they would be eligible for federal student aid and do not want to be considered for other financial aid programs, you can apply for the HOPE scholarship by completed the E-HOPE Application. This form is available on in the Internet at www.gacollege411.org. DHS does not provide these forms.

C. If you plan on attending a private school in Georgia, make sure you complete the Tuition Equalization Grant (TEG) form available at www.gacollege411.org. The TEG is worth over $1000, in addition to HOPE funds. Only for private schools.

D. All students must have their correct social security number and legal name on file at DHS in order to be eligible for the HOPE Scholarship. You can check your HOPE status at www.gacollege411.org.

CISCO Dual Enrollment Program

DHS January College Visits

Hey Wildcats! Mrs. Strickland is setting up times for college representatives to come visit DHS and meet with students who are interested in applying to their school. If you are interested in attending one of the sessions in the Depot (located in the Counseling Office, 300 building) please see Mrs. Strickland to get a pass. If the college rep is going to be in the lunchroom there is no pass required.
